Goodridge stainless steel lock wire, manufactured using aircraft grade 321 stainless steel, which is made to military specifications and perfect for positioning hoses or securely wiring mounting hardware. Lock wire, also known as safety wire, is often employed on motorsport vehicles to prevent safety critical components from loosening, typically due to increased vibration or other extreme forces. Goodridge lock wire is available in a variety of gauges of 321 grade stainless steel wire.
Components are tightened to the specific tightness and then lockwire is attached to the fasteners, usually through pre-drilled holes and tensioned in the tightening direction, physically securing the fastener, stopping it from unwinding.
Lockwiring is an art, it's not hard, but you will need a pair of lockwire pliers to do the job properly and care must be taken not to weaken any fastener of component needing to being wired, with attention being paid to the direction of rotation, to ensure a positive locking influence.
